INSTRUCTIONS
FOR USE
General guidelines:
• Clinicians must be trained in the practice of venipuncture
and catheter insertion and be aware of inherit dangers.
• Aseptic technique, proper skin preparation and continued
protection of the site are essential. Observe Universal Precautions on
ALL patients.
• Non-pyrogenic. Sterile unless package has been opened or
damaged.
Cautions
and warnings:
• Never reinsert the needle into the catheter.
• Do not use scissors at or near insertion site.
• 18 to 22 gauge Insyte catheters are suitable for use with
power injectors up to a maximum pressure setting of 300 psi.
• Patency of the catheter should be assured before connecting
the power injector to the catheter.
• Report needlesticks immediately and follow established
protocol.
• Exposure to blood either through percutaneous puncture with
a contaminated needle or via mucous membranes may lead to serious
illness such as hepatitis, HIV (AIDS) or other infectious diseases.
• Resheathing needles is hazardous.
• Federal (U.S.A.) law restricts this device to sale by or on
the order of a physician.
Catheter
insertion:
A. Remove needle cover and inspect catheter. Rotate catheter
360°.
B. Perform venipuncture.
C. Observe blood return in the dear flash chamber. Insyte-N:
blood return will also be visible through the catheter.
D. Upon visualization of blood return, lower and advance the
entire catheter and needle unit slightly to ensure the catheter tip is
within the vessel.
E. Holding the flash chamber stationary, advance the catheter
off the needle into the vein.
F. Holding the colored hub, gently remove the needle and
immediately discard in a puncture resistant, leak proof sharps
container.
G. Connect tubing or adapter.
H. Secure catheter and apply sterile dressing per protocol.
